Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that isn't answered here, please email lea@blueridgetutoring.com, and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

What is a typical session like?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring, and sessions are tailored to meet each student's needs. We are in touch with students and parents before the initial meeting, so that we are clear on goals and strategies. Test prep students will have the opportunity to take practice tests before their first session, so we can determine strengths and weaknesses. This focused, individualized approach allows for the most efficient and effective results.

What is the cost of a session?

The cost of tutoring sessions are as follows:

My kid doesn't tell me anything. How will I know how the tutoring is going?

Tutors will email parents a quick summary after each session, letting you know about your child's progress, areas for improvement, as well as any homework assignments. We like to keep the lines of communication open!

How long is a session?

This varies according to preference, but most sessions are 1, 1.5, or 2 hours long.

Do you work with students who have learning disabilities, test anxiety and/or get extra time on tests?

All the time! Let us know what challenges you're working with, and we will do our best to match a student with an experienced tutor who can help.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. In order to best support our tutors, late cancels will be charged for a full session.

Is tutoring via video really as effective as an in-person session?

Absolutely!  Here is why we love tutoring remotely:

  • No travel time means it's easier for students to fit tutoring sessions into their busy lives.

  • We use Zoom and Google Meet. Both are free, easy to install, and have features perfect for tutoring: tutors and students can share their screens, mark up passages, write out practice problems, record, and schedule sessions easily.

  • We're located in Asheville, NC, but you don't have to be! We can tutor students in any time zone.

Not convinced? We offer free 15 minute consultations to show you just how easy and effective video tutoring can be.

But students who want to meet in person still can, right?

Yes! As long as you're local, our tutors will travel to your home or agreed upon location. Students working with Lea and/or Jessica will be able to meet at her workspace in Hatchworks at 45 South French Broad in downtown Asheville.

Do you offer small group classes for test prep?

Yes! We have weeklong ACT and SAT classes offered during the summer at Hatchworks in downtown Asheville. Email for more details and to register.
